Making A Professional Looking Web Site ( Using FrontPage)

These series of lessons are designed to give you some good ideas how you can make a Front Page web site that looks professional.   The lessons here also apply to other web sites but the how to sections feature FrontPage commands.  As we are going to start right at the beginning, you may want to jump on to some of the lessons later on in the training program.

Know Your Fonts
Reduce Width Of The Text
Tidying Up Your Web Page Prior To Publishing

Add Your Site To The Major Search Engines

To start the exercise, lets make a brand new web site using the steps as follows. The web site that I am going to make is designed to describe my companies products and services and can be found online at http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/fx.  This web service does not host Front Page Server extensions so I have to ensure that I make all pages without any fancy trimmings.

Starting A Blank New Web Site

Open FrontPage and choose from the top menu

File     New      Web

Now select a one page web and enter a good name for the web site.  Keep the name specific to the web site, with no spaces or fancy characters and try and keep the name under 10 character.

Now you should have a FrontPage web with one html file called default.htm.  This is your home page.   We will be setting up this page for navigation of the web site rather than for a lengthy discussion on how good your company is.

To establish a page that describes the company, I am going to make a blank page to demonstrate how layout can help you to setup up good looking pages

Creating A Blank New Page

Choose from the top menu

File     New      Page

You will now find yourself editing a brand new html file called newpage1.htm.  It is a good idea if you immediately save this file to the name that you wish to adopt for the page.  In this case the page will be called aboutus.htm and you save the file using

File     Save As

Now we are going to add some detail to the page in lesson 2 and make a normal page look more professional.  Please excuse the look of the next page.
