application that is available in all popular versions of Microsoft Access

It is designed to provide tools to explore your databases with graphs and queries using a
technique called Data Mining. It is also a quick way to generate/prototype Access Graphs
without running the Wizards.
If you are an Access/Office User, you don't need to learn how to use another data mining
product. All you have to do is link your tables to any Access/ODBC database and then
start exploring your data. If you wish, you can then write your own queries to join tables
or limit the data returned and drilldown on these. The software imports table and query
filters to add initial flexibility to the drilldowns without the need to write queries.
This enables you to use filter by example and filter by form.

Installation
First you must have Microsoft Access
2007/2003/2002/2000. The shareware version of XP is actually the 2000 version.
The registered version of other version is in the relevant format.
Secondly you must install Microsoft Graph when installing Access or Microsoft Office.
To install the software, run the Winzip executable installation program. Initially
it is recommended that you simply select the c:\vb123\graf-fx directory as the place to install
your software. To unzip the files, double click on the graf*.exe file that you have downloaded or received in your email. This program will put all the files that you
need into the directory that you choose. If you select a directory other than the
default, you will need to run the "Manage graf references wizard" to tell the program
where to look for your Excel chart files.
To start the shareware program you double click on the graf97-FX.mde or graf2000.mde file using the file manager or open Access and point to the file. Full size of Graf97-FX.mde and Graf2000-FX.mde is 3.5mb.

How Does Graf-FX Operate
The application is designed as an open front end application. Any drilldown query or
graf/form can be exported into other Access databases or you can build your application in
this database. All tables - queries and forms have labelled with a "z_" prefix so
that they do not get in your way.
 | Use the linking/attachment manager to link to the tables in your data database and setup your own queries on top of the linked tables. Otherwise you our remote queries technology to retrieve data from your datebases. |
| If you are using a backend database
such as Oracle, Informix, DB2, Sybase and have an appropriate ODBC
driver for the database, you can use the linking method. If you
are looking for greater efficiencies, you can setup Pass Through queries
in Access which will pre-process your data at the backend before passing
data down to Graf-fx. These do not require linked tables but you
will need to setup the queries yourself. |
