As I mentioned in the last
newsletter, I decided to adopt XML to help distribute news content at
vb123.com.
After the newsletter went out, quite a number of readers wanted to know what
they would be receiving if they set themselves up with an RSS news reader and
setup our RSS feed for that reader. To help you decide if it was all worth it, I
have converted our RSS feeds for the first month into HTML to include in this
email. These links and descriptions are listed below.
I also described in the
newsletter that I was going to reduce the number of newsletters unless I
received a positive response to the business subscription initiative for this
newsletter. Well the response to that was quite positive (which is why I have
produced another newsletter so soon after), that I have decided that business
subscribers to this newsletter will be provided with extra material and the
occasional prize. The charge for this subscription is be US$9.95 per email
account. Garry

New Version of Workbench For Microsoft Access Released
Support for MDE compiles in Access 97, 2000, 2002/XP and 2003. Tightened up the
process for database decompiles to guide the user to follow the correct
procedures for a proper decompile. Built in support for the vb123 rss/xml feed
so that you can read it without an RSS reader. Better support for resellers of
the Workbench.

Office for free - we will see about that one
Even as Microsoft readies a host of new ad-supported online services to battle
rivals, the software maker has been mulling a plan to offer free, ad-supported
versions of some of its desktop products, I personally love the $9 per customer
number in this advertisement.

Access 12 Review at PC World
With some slick productivity enhancements and a completely new interface,
Microsoft Access 12 gets more of a makeover than any other Office component in
the suite. The new interface is far more colorful and graphical, with tabs for
navigating between screens instead of the blank workspace of older versions. An
improved template library provides in-depth, business-oriented databases that
let you get started quickly.

Office 12 Overview Including Access
The Office Newsletter writes "Last weeks release of the technical beta (Beta 1)
of Microsoft Office "12" makes it clear that Microsoft has been working hard to
make existing features more obvious, rather than adding a host of new features."
This page will give you a good idea of the radical interface changes in the new
version of MS Office and that includes MS Access which is definitely heading
mainstream.

Stop Sony's Rootkit Using Windows Group Policy
How do you stop CDs from auto-playing which allows something like Sony's rootkit
to install on their computers. The solution is actually quite simple and
effective with Microsoft Active Directory Group Policy. It's easy to disable
auto-play from every single computer in the Enterprise globally with just a few
tweaks in Group Policy and here's how you do it. The same technique works for
individual PCs as well.

Access Traps for the Novice Developer
We all love Access, but our favorite tool has many "features"
that lead the naive developer into error. You may not
appreciate the cost of these less-than-helpful additions but,
should you upgrade to an enterprise database, you'll regret
every one of them. Garry Robinson outlines those errors and
how to avoid them (along with some code to find the errors).

LIBRARIAN SERVICE
NEW
If you have trouble locating
MS Access related programming content on the web or just think you waste too
much time looking and posting to newsgroups, why not use Garry and his team as
personal librarians. Finding things is our business and passion and we are
generally successful because we have plenty of books on the shelves, lots of
magazines, access to knowledge bases and over 200 Access database projects to
draw on. This service will cover up to 3 hours of librarian support and more can
be purchased if necessary. In most instances, a query to the librarian should
probably only take a few minutes of our time so you should be able to ask quite
a few questions over a year. Please note that we will not be doing the
programming for you but we hope to inspire you with the best information so that
you can solve your problems.
We believe that this service
will complement our professional newsletter and hope that you will be
interested.

WRAPPING
THIS EDITION UP
This email newsletter has
provided tips, help and information for skilled
Microsoft Access® users and related
software disciplines for free to thousands of readers for over six years now. So
with our products selling well and XML coming along as a better way to deliver
content, it was time to take a more commercial approach to the email newsletter.
I hope you agree that the content is worth paying for because I would like
Access Unlimited to continue to be an independent source of Access and related
product news delivered to your Inbox every month.
